Practical Info

Welcome

Akwaaba! Accra is Ghana’s busy, friendly capital by the sea. The city is full of life, with good food, warm people, and a mix of old and new. It’s a peaceful place that’s fast becoming a hub for trade, business, and culture in Africa.

Pack light clothes, drink water often, and enjoy the sea breeze when it comes. It’s a good time to explore without the heavy rains. While you're here, stroll through the town, and don’t miss the food—from jollof to fresh fish and spicy plantains, it’s all worth a try.

Visit the markets or relax at the beach after the conference.

VISA and HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

Participants should be aware that in practical terms, visas are required for some African and all non-African countries traveling to Ghana. Every participant should work on their visa arrangement before travelling to Accra.

A personal invitation letter will be sent to all participants in due course to support their visa application.

If you are required to travel to another country to apply from, kindly inform your Sub-regional secretary and Valerie Malm valerie.malm@world-psi.org early on.

All participants must ensure that their Yellow Fever vaccination card is up to date, as this is a mandatory entry requirement for Ghana. If for whatever reason you fail to secure one before your travel, you can also take the Yellow Fever vaccine at the Kotoka International Airport upon arrival at the rate of $20 only.

Medical insurance

All participants are strongly recommended to take out adequate travel and health insurance to provide this coverage.

Participants with chronic health problems, and who take medication regularly must bring enough to last the entire conference period. Once again, it is highly recommended that you take out adequate health insurance to cover the conference duration.

In case of problems, please contact the Local Organising Committee (@Lucy Felicity Addy (Phone/Whatsapp: +233 243701004) and your Sub Regional Representatives at any time.

Security

During the Conference - Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra and the other hotels are commercial establishments and not exclusive to PSI. Take care of your phone, computer and personal belongings.

Accra is a friendly and peaceful city—one of the safest cities to visit in West Africa. You can walk around during the day in most areas, and people are warm and willing to help.

Like any big city, you should still be careful. Keep your phone and bag closed in busy places. Stick to trusted taxis or ride apps like Uber, Bolt, Yango, and you'll be just fine.

If necessary: the Ghana Police Service offers 191 and 18555 as toll-free numbers for emergency calls.
